Tintswalo Safari Lodges’ exclusive property lies within the 23 000 hectare Manyeleti Private Game Reserve, nestled between unfenced boundaries of the Kruger National Park, the Timbavati, and Sabi Sands. Manyeleti Private Game Reserve

The Manyeleti Private Game Reserve shares its borders with Kruger National Park, Timbavati Game Reserve and Sabi Sands Game Reserve, forming part of a huge area of land in which wildlife roams free. It is managed by the Mnisi people, who have lived on this land for many generations.

In Shangaan, the language of the most dominant tribe in the area, Manyeleti means ‘Place of Stars’ and in the evenings, when the sun’s light is replaced by that of the moon and countless bright stars, one can understand why. A dry area for most of the year, Manyeleti offers spectacular scenes of wildlife as they gather at water holes. Aside from the spectacular game viewing opportunities, the reserve also offers insight into the culture and traditions of the Mnisi people.

The most popular and regularly used routes in the Kruger National Park are tarred as it is a major attraction worldwide, and it’s necessary to keep the roads in good condition both to handle the amount of daytime traffic experienced in busy seasons, and to ensure that the park can remain accessible even through the rainy season.  We tend to find that animals take advantage of the smooth, warm roads, which also see more game in the winter months because these roads are situated close to the rivers.

The Big Hole - Kimberley

150 years ago, the site of the Big Hole was a featureless, flat-topped hill. When word spread that diamonds had been discovered, thousands of prospectors, armed with nothing more than picks, shovels and hope, descended on Kimberley and created the largest hand-dug excavation in the world.

The Kimberley Mine Museum offers a trip back in time to when diamonds were first found in South Africa in 1866, near Hopetown in the Northern Cape. Three years later the 83-carat 'Star of South Africa' was discovered in the same area, unleashing a frenzied diamond rush seldom seen before or since.

Winston Churchill called it “a most excellent establishment”; John Lennon meditated in its lush grounds, and modern-day celebrities from Leonardo di Caprio to Charlize Theron have breakfasted on its sunny balconies.
